Many teachers spend hundreds of dollars on school supplies for their classrooms every year. But one Tempe business can significantly increase the amount a teacher can get for the money. Treasures 4 Teachers collects donations of new and used office and art supplies, books and more, then offers the goods to educators at a hugely reduced cost – sometimes completely free.
For $5, educators can fill a big plastic bag with whatever they need until it’s overstuffed. There is also a section of the store where every item is free. Often, teachers get a free item, like a large package of Sharpies, just for stopping by.
The Tempe Diablos and area businesses help keep the costs way down. Shutterfly donates cards and big stacks of paper. Offices that are downsizing send over their staplers, tape dispensers and binders. Even used toilet paper holders are perfect for art and science projects. There’s an entire bin of them available for free. Yes! Thousands of free TP tubes!
Treasures 4 Teachers is located at 3025 S. 48th St. Tax-deductible donations of school supplies are accepted on site. The store will pick up donations of 20 boxes or more. Cash donations are also accepted at treasures4teachers.org. Say thank you to founder Barbara Blalock while you are there.
